Some of our walkers recently visited the stunning 4.5km long Göynük Canyon and we thought it deserved a blog all of its own.
Where Is Göynük Canyon?
You’ll find the Canyon in the Beydağları Coastal National Park, which was established in 1972. The National Park covers nearly 133 square miles and has a huge biodiversity with over 865 plant species and mammals such as mountain goats, bobcats, caracals and even wolves!
The Canyon itself is approximately 7km from Kemer in the Province of Antalya.
As well as Göynük Canyon, the park also encompasses Tahtalı Dağı (Olympos), the tallest mountain within the park. Here you can ride on a cable car right to the top and take in the panoramic views.
You’ll also find ancient settlements such as Phaselis and the flames at Chimaera. These are areas you’ll visit should you decide to hike this section of the Lycian Way. Click here to look at our blog about the area.
Göynük Canyon itself will be an assault on your senses. Whichever way you look you’ll see some of Mother Nature’s best work.
If you enjoy hiking but also want to get your adrenaline going, you can go zip lining or canyoning. If that doesn’t grab you you can take a slightly less frightening boat tour which allows you to go for a swim and appreciate the beauty of the Canyon.
