Highlights: Lycian Way West Itinerary:
Day 1 – Arrive Dalaman Airport, transfer to accommodation (45 mins) in Fethiye
Stay in the old quarter with its lovely selection of old houses, shops and restaurants. Overnight in Fethiye.
Day 2 – Walk from Fethiye to Kayakoy. 5 miles / 8 kms. 3 hours walking time
The walking grade is easy. The walk climbs over the hillside on an ancient cobbled path before descending into Kayakoy. There are great views over Fethiye on the climb up. If completed in the morning, you can then have time to explore the charming village of Kayakoy. The village is famous for its old deserted Greek town. The inspiration behind the novel ‘Birds without wings’ by Louis de Bernieres. It also featured in The Russell Crowe film ‘The Water Diviner’ (2004). Overnight in Kayakoy.
Day 3 – Short transfer to Ovacik, walk to Kabak. 11 miles / 18 kms. 6 to 7 hours walking time
The grade is moderate. Ovacik is the official start point of The Lycian Way. We will ascend around Babadağ (Father mountain) with great views over Olu Deniz Lagoon and the surrounding coastline. The route continues to the little village of Kirme on the shoulder of Babadağ. It then descends through valleys to the village of Faralya nestling above Butterfly valley. You will have chance to stop for local food and tea at a few places on the route. From Faralya the route continues through pine forest and uphill before reaching Kabak. Overnight in Kabak.
Day 4 – Kabak to Road Junction south of Alinca. 6.5 miles / 11 kms. 6 to 7 hours walking time
The grade is moderately difficult. From your accommodation, in Kabak, you will walk down to Kabak Beach. Here you can enjoy a swim. From Kabak Beach, you will walk along the valley floor until starting a long steady climb to Alinca. A small village perched on the mountainside with fantastic views out to sea. You can get a drink or food here before descending close to the mountainside. If conditions are wet/windy then we recommend staying on the road here. Hike downhill to your end point. transfer to Karadere. Overnight in Karadere.
Day 5 – Road Junction to Bel via Sidyma. 8 miles / 13 kms. 5 to 6 hours walking time
The grade is moderately difficult. (There is an alternative route that stays close to the coastline with great sea views. We can arrange this walk.) Today you will walk along a pretty valley to the village of Bogazici. The route ascends to the ancient Lycian site of Sidyma where you can explore. You will continue to Bel a tiny village, meaning ‘pass’ the lowest point Karadere and the sea. Overnight in Bel/Karadere.
Day 6 – Walk from Bel to Karadere Beach. 10 miles / 16 kms. 6 hours walking time
The grade is moderately difficult. It’s not too difficult but care needs to be taken on the descent to Gavuragli as the route goes traverses both large rocks and small stones on the path. Great views as the route descends then climbs again overlooking Karadere and Patara beach. there are small ruins at Pudnai before you complete your days’ walk. You can also take a swim at the beach. Overnight in Karadere.
Day 7 – Transfer to Delikemer, walk to Patara ruins. 8.5 miles / 14 kms. 5-6 hours walking time
The grade is moderate. Today you will start at the engineering marvel that is Delikemer Aquaduct, over 2000 years old. Here the water was siphoned inside large stone blocks across a small valley. The walk takes you around a peninsula with fantastic sea views. It concludes at the spectacular ancient ruins of Patara. There will be time to explore and also take a visit to the nearby white sand beach. Overnight in Patara.
Day 8 – After breakfast, transfer return to Dalaman Airport.

You can alter this itinerary to suit the time you have available so 5 days or 6 days of hiking. You can also add a rest day into the itinerary and skip a walking day.
