You will get a stunning view of Ölüdeniz on your first day of hiking the Lycian Way but we thought we’d take the opportunity to take a closer look.
The Beach
Ölüdeniz means ‘dead sea’ and describes the still waters of the lagoon that sits beyond the beach; commonly known as the Blue Lagoon.
However, the main beach is a little more choppy but a great place to cool down after a few hours on a sunlounger.
Things to Do
Obviously you can sunbathe to your heart’s content.
But there are plenty of other activities on offer including boat trips, paddle boarding, paragliding and so much more.
You’ll find many companies happy to arrange any of these activities, along with a huge selection of other day trips, so you definitely won’t have time to get bored.
There’s also plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to keep you entertained for a good few hours.
However, the newest and one of the most popular excursions is the cable car ride up to the top of Babadağ where you can eat, drink, witness an amazing sunset or watch the paragliders set off. Click here to take a look at their website.
Accommodation
Ölüdeniz is a resort so all of the accommodation comes in the form of hotels, many of which are all inclusives.
Beyond Ölüdeniz
Of course, there are also many other things you can do if you fancy venturing away from the resort.
Fethiye is around 17km away from Ölüdeniz and easily reachable by the local bus, or dolmuş. Click here to see what Fethiye has to offer.
You’ve also got the enchanting village of Kayakoy which not only gives you an idea of old Türkiye but also has a fascinating history which you can read more about here.
If the shopping and nightlife in Ölüdeniz isn’t enough for you, just a short hop away on the dolmuş will take you to the resort town of Hisarönü which offers you a wide variety of shops selling everything from ‘genuine fake’ branded goods to perfumes and jewellery. Or perhaps you fancy a tattoo or a hair cut? After shopping you can party the night away in one of the many bars and clubs.
Whatever you decide to do, we think it is a great place to relax and spend a few days either before or after your Lycian Way hike.
