Food on the Lycian Way
What are you going to Eat?
Today I’m going to talk about Food on the Lycian Way. What you can expect to eat and how we cater for special dietary requirements. The first thing to say is that Turkish cuisine is famous for having a wide variety of fresh local produce. On The Lycian Way you will stay in small hotels and local guesthouses that will give you typical Turkish cuisine. So, for breakfast expect to eat eggs, cheese, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, bread, local honey and jams. For lunch we can arrange sandwiches or ‘gozleme’ (local pancakes with onion, cheese, spinach etc.). Dinners will often consist of soups and casseroles, rice, beans and bread, vegetables and salads.
We do regularly get asked about vegetarian food. Turkey has not embraced vegetarianism yet but meat is relatively expensive so many dishes are meat-free anyway. We can make sure that you will receive a vegetarian diet if necessary during your stay in Turkey. We are also proud to say that if you join us for a Lycian Way holiday we can cater for all your dietary requirements. We recently had a guest who was a coeliac and required a gluten-free diet. My wife cooked (very good) gluten-free bread and we ensured that all the places that our guest was staying made sure that his diet was free from gluten. If you happen to enjoy a fish or meat BBQ then we have regular ones at our guesthouse so you will also not go short of protein.
We very much hope that the food on The Lycian Way will be another highlight of your hiking holiday. If you have any questions about your Lycian Way hiking holiday then get in touch with us using our email or contact form here. We look forward to hearing from you.
