Lycian way Holidays

Day 1 Western Section Lycian Way Group Holiday

In the next few weeks, we will outline our Lycian Way group hiking holiday. We took a small group hiking on The western section of The Lycian Way route in October 2018.

Ovacik to Kabak, 18 km, 7 hours with stops for photos & packed lunch.

We set off from our hotel in Ovacik. The route starts off the road that runs from Ovacik at the top of the hill down to Oludeniz it is signed with a yellow marker post. Shortly you will come to a large metal banner announcing the official start point of the Lycian way route. The route starts gently on asphalt road before turning to stone track. The route soon ascends around Babadag (father mountain) and starts to rise quite steeply around and up the mountainside. Before long between you will quickly get great views below out to sea and of Oludeniz beach and the lagoon behind it. It’s a stunning view that just gets better the higher you climb. We were also lucky that it was a day when lots of colourful paragliders were taking off from the summit of Babadag. Drifting peacefully on the air currents both above and below us.

The route flattens out and passes around the mountain before reaching a small village. There is a spring and a small tea shop where you can sit and relax with a drink and local pancake. In Turkish this called Gozleme and is a very popular snack. The route then follows a road for a short distance before returning to track still with great views of surrounding mountainside. Shortly we reached the village of Kirme. We descended through the small village and continued on the route to the village of Faralya. Here there is accommodation, restaurants and tea shops. We enjoyed local yoghurt and honey and cups of Turkish tea (cay).

Then the route climbs out of Faralya through pine forest before levelling off and then descending to our overnight stop of Kabak. Kabak overlooks the beach and across to the mountains opposite. A really peaceful and beautiful stop. We stayed in wooden cabins with wonderful views across the valley.
